The Germans are coming! A 'what the fuck?!?!'-moment.

Walking into this place was definitely a 'what the fuck?!?!'-moment.

I went to a military fair in Milan. People dressed up as Nazis all over the place. I'd better not show these images to my grandmother. She might freak out. Still receives a pension cause my grandaddio was in the Resistance against the German occupation of The Netherlands. Hence the possibility of her freaking out.
Also not sure of something like this being legal where I come from.

Anyway as a photographer I have to be objective and shoot what I see whether I agree or disagree. It's a reality that is out there somewhere.
People were very willing to pose by the way which was completely the opposite of what I had expected..

Tech info; Nikon D700, AFD Nikkor 50mm f1.4, ISO 200, shutter speeds between 1/90s and 1/250s. All with available light.

New and upcoming designers

Last day at the fashion week in Milan and time for up and coming designers. All the designers were mixed into one show here. So I am not really sure which outfits belong to which designer..The designers Beequeen by Chicca Lualdi,  Mauro Gasperi, Cristiano Burani, Francesca Liberatore and Sergei Grinko. Backstage images shot at the Circolo Filologico.

Tech info: Nikon D700, AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8, AFD Nikkor 35 F2, ISO 400-800, f3.3, shutter speeds between 1/30s and 1/350s.

Yes models do also eat.

Models slightly losing control at the backstages in Milan Part 1

Models being funny (or trying to be funny) is a recipe for interesting images I would say. The models have fun (not all of them, some of the diva models refuse...), I have fun and the viewers have fun. So everybody wins! There be a few episodes to this series since I've shot a lot of girls. So something to look forward to.
I asked the girls for their normal straight face followed by their psycho/scary/scared face and finally to stick their tongues out.

Tech info: Nikon D300 with AFD Nikkor 50mm f1.4 Shot at ISO 400, aperture between f4 and f6.7, shutter speed 1/60s to 1/125s with a direct flash from the Nikon SB-600 flash.

Carta e Costura show at the fashion week in Milan

Images from the Carta e Costura show at the fashion week in Milan. Again in the beautiful Palazzo Clerici. Really good for shooting with available light. When I arrived at the backstage the models already had their cone hairstyle. So I am not sure how they did that. And when I started taking images I forgot to ask someone..Anyway, I think it really looks good. Compliments to the creators.

Tech info; Nikon D700, AF 50mm f1.8 and AFD 35mm f2, ISO 400-800, shot at f2.8, shutter speeds between 1/125s and 1/350s.

Lorenzo Riva show at the Milan fashion week

Images from the Lorenzo Riva show at the Milan fashion week. Generally not the most popular show with the fashion in-crowd but lots of times I get the best images where I least expect them. And if you go where other people don't you sometimes find things you wouldn't find elsewhere..I definitely got some decent images here. Not the best but decent.
What I found at this show and had never seen before was an old lady who during the show decided that backstage was not for her...So she came out like a model..Very professional...Unfortunately I was so surprised it took me a few seconds to realize what was happening that I didn't capture the moment. A momentary lack of photographer's instinct..

Tech info; Nikon D700, ISO 800/1000, AF Nikkor 180mm f2.8 (at 1/750s f2.8), AF Nikkor 35mm f2 (at 1/500 f3.3), AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8 (at 1/500 f3.3)

Sneak preview of a portrait story I'm working on

Here's a sneak preview of a portrait story that I am working on at the moment. Shooting boys that like to cross-dress.
My first subjects were Andrea Superstyle and La Bragaa Regina. It was nice to work with them since they were very easy going and very co-operative. So the results are very nice indeed. They can be seen when the whole project is finished in some time.
A few 'backstage' images from when the boys were making themselves up and getting ready.

Tech info; Nikon D700 with AF Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens. ISO 400. Aperture f2.8 at different shutter speeds.

Hidden faces at the Erkan Coruh show at the fashion week in Milan

Turkish designer Erkan Coruh decided that models also look good when you don't see their faces. So he veiled them and added some mystery to the girls. Also helpful for shy models and girls walking their first show (or both). Another bonus for the girls is that they might get away with not looking straight ahead at the photographers with a serious face. They might have even been smiling under their veils.

Tech info: Nikon D700 with both my 35mm and 50mm lens. Aperture f2.8, shutter speeds between 1/250th and 1/125th. ISO 800/1000.

Well, this is before.
Also before but ready

Outside the Armani show at the fashion week in Milan part 1

The Armani show is always one of the best places to shoot fashionistas at the fashion week in Milan. Just watch the images and you'll see what I mean..

All shot with my 35mm, perfect for streetstyle, lens. I usually try to shoot the streetstyle images with the lens at f4 aperture. To get just the right depth of field. Also the lens is very sharp at that aperture.

Runway images from the Byblos show at the fashion week in Milan

I was at the beginning of the runway which is an angle that I like very much. When you see the models coming from the backstage onto the runway.

Some streetstyle work outside the Iceberg show at the fashion week in Milan

A rainy day in Milan but of course that doesn't stop the hardcore fashionistas from dressing up for the occasion. Here some streetstyle outside the Iceberg show.

Shot with my 35 mm lens which is great for these kind of shots.

Iceberg show at the fashion week in Milan

So this was the Iceberg show at the fashion week in Milan. Tried different angles and lenses to see the show with different perspectives.

On the technical side, shot with my D700 with available light and the AF Nikkor 35mm F2 and the AF Nikkor 180mm F2.8

Some shoes and lower body work at the Byblos show at the fashion week in Milan

The first images from the Byblos show at the fashion week in Milan.

I was at the beginning of the catwalk/runway and it was a good spot to capture the models coming out and going back in. The surface of the catwalk was of the shiny type which gave an interesting reflection. So I thought it looked nice to just show the girl's feet with a little reflection.

For anyone interested in technical information, I shot it with available light with my Nikon D700. The lens I used is my AF Nikkor 50mm F1.8 which to me is an amazing lens. I bought it about 10 years ago for about 90€ and it is supersharp. Really hard to see the difference between this lens and my much more expensive lenses. Great bargain I would say.
